Volkswagen Beetle Dune : The Off-Road Concept Car

At the 2014 Detroit Motor Show Volkswagen will unveil the Beetle Dune Concept, a near-production off-road vehicle based on the iconic model with all-terrain suspension and a rugged look. As Volkswagen reports, the Beetle Dune Concept hints at a potential Cross version of the Beetle model and features a near-production design.

The powertrain of the new Dune Concept features a 210 PS turbocharged gasoline engine coupled with a 6-speed DSG transmission – both from the production line-up.The power is transferred to the front wheels and all-terrain performances are enabled by the suspension layout, with a front MacPherson suspension and a four-link system at the rear, combined by the electronic XDS differential lock.

Focused on leisure activities and in particular on winter sports, the concept has a body raised by 50 mm and integrates a pair of skis at the rear.
